Gynaecological care programme for women with disabilities
The Foundation runs this programme in collaboration with the Guttmann Institute, a leading hospital centre for the comprehensive rehabilitation of people affected by spinal cord injury, acquired brain damage or any neurological disability
A programme in collaboration with the Guttmann Institute
Women with physical disabilities require different gynaecological care, whether in terms of check-ups, fulfilling their desire to become mothers, monitoring their pregnancies, care during childbirth or surgical procedures.
The Dexeus Mujer Foundation’s “Gynaecological Care for Women with Physical Disabilities” programme consists of developing specialised medical care in the fields of gynaecology, obstetrics and reproduction, with a view to improving care for women with neurological disabilities.
The Foundation runs this programme in collaboration with the Guttmann Institute (a leading hospital centre for the comprehensive rehabilitation of people affected by spinal cord injury, acquired brain damage, or any neurological disability), which consists of:
- Creating a space for knowledge sharing between professionals from both institutions, with the aim of promoting care, research, teaching and training in gynaecological and obstetric care for women with neurological disabilities.
- Funding the travel expenses of a specialist gynaecologist to the Guttmann Institute to visit women with disabilities who, due to their personal circumstances or environment, cannot be treated at other gynaecological facilities in the country.
- With this initiative, the Dexeus Mujer Foundation and Dexeus Mujer have been named "Friends of the Guttmann Institute" for their solidarity and involvement in improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in our country.
How it works
Dexeus Mujer sends a gynaecologist to the Guttmann Institute to visit women with neurological disabilities who, due to their personal circumstances or environment, cannot be treated at other gynaecological facilities in the country (one day a week).
